Setting Up Your Computers and Network

If you purchased selling stations from RTS, one of the machines will be marked as the Server. This is intended to be your main ticketing computer, and to be placed in your busiest ticketing location – this ensures that you will always be able to sell tickets, even if any network issues should occur.

Unpack the computers, along with any accessories, and place on or under your counters as required.

Connect the interface cables from any peripheral devices if applicable (cash drawer, customer facing display, mag card reader, printer, bar code scanner, etc.). Plug Ethernet cables into each computer using the built-in network jack(RJ45). Ethernet cables should be new or in known working condition. If you need to purchase cables, look for CAT5e or CAT6 patch cables; network cables can be purchased in most computer stores.

Best Practices

Assign a static IP address to each machine running RTS software. Ensure that the addresses are outside the DHCP range for your network. If this is not done, a router failure or DHCP problem will cause machines to fail when connecting to the server.

Enable a DHCP server for the point of sale network.

Do not connect an Open WIFI network to the point of sale network.

Do not connect a protected WIFI network to the RTS network with a password given to all employees.

Internet Ticketing

A static public IP is not required for your Internet connection unless using You should forward TCP ports 2235, 80, and 443 to your RTS servers local IP address. If you do not forward 80 and 443 certain corporate customer computers will not be able to purchase internet tickets.

What are these ports used for?

  • Port 80 - This is the port the RTS Web-server "listens" on for unencrypted hypertext, otherwise referred to as HTTP traffic.
  • Port 443 - This is the port the RTS Web-server "listens" on for encrypted hypertext, otherwise referred to as HTTPS SSL/TLS traffic.
  • Port 2235 - This a non-standard port and is used exclusively by the RTS Web-server. It operates in much the same way as port 80.
  • Port 2237 is no longer required to be forwarded and should be removed from your forwarding rules.

Digital Signs - Chromecasts

If using Chromecasts for digital signage, Google requires a DHCP server. The DHCP server should assign addresses in the point of sale network range. Chromecasts must have internet access.
