Occasionally when someone attempts to pay with a credit card, their card balance may not be enough to cover the transaction. In this case, your credit card processor may approve a charge for a lower amount than the total of the transaction. RTS has added feature that allows you to configure how you handle a Partial Auth.

Configuring your Options for Partial Auths

You can configure what options your employees have when a card receives a partial auth. This setting will apply to all stations. To do this:

  1. Navigate to Setup -> Credit Cards
  2. Enter the EMV Server Tab
  3. Select an Option in the Partial Approvals dropdown
    1. Accept - Always apply the authorized amount to the transaction. The transaction will need to finished with another payment method
    2. Prompt - Give your the option to accept or decline the amount.
    3. Refund - Always decline the card if it is not approved for the full amount of the transaction

If No is pressed, the transaction will not be completed and your employees will receive the message:

Partial authorization refunded, funds will be available per customer bank timeframe.

Once OK is pressed the card will be rejected, but the items will stay in the register so the transaction can be completed with a different payment method.

If nothing is pressed at the prompt, after enough time, RTS will default to reject the card.

Note: If the card is rejected, the cardholder may see a hold on their account for the amount of the partial auth. This will disappear in a few days.

Partial Approvals set to Refund

When the Partial Approvals setting is set to Refund, your employees will receive a message:

Partial authorization refunded, funds will be available per customer bank timeframe.
